Methodology
How we collect and rank mortgage rates.
Where the rates come from
We collect mortgage rates daily from publicly available lender websites and show them as the lender publishes them. Rates change frequently; always confirm the current rate with the lender.
How lenders are ranked
Within each product, lenders are ordered by the lowest normalized rate — the interest rate adjusted for points (we add roughly a quarter-point of rate per point charged) so quotes are comparable on an apples-to-apples basis. The lowest effective cost appears first.
Ranking is payment-independent. Order is determined only by this objective measure — never by what a lender pays.
We are not paid for placement
RateBuck does not accept payment from lenders for ranking position, placement, clicks, or leads. No lender can buy a higher spot. When you click through to a lender, we record that a click happened (no personal information) so we can measure whether the comparison is useful — we are not paid for it.
